  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations.To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color.The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character.My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell.You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs.This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

My name is Hebron, i come from Indonesia, and it is my first challenge here.
So if there is something different with my way, please help me to understand. I don't know the habits here.

So about the challenge, this is my simple idea.

AJABU
In the future, after a big war has been finished, there are survivors who save from big wars decide to build a new hope. Using the old ruined city as a base, they decide to build their home.
All in all, this is a new, an unfinished city, above the old ruins, where people who still have memories about how great their old days and deciding to build a new homeland (A- Jabu)

PS: Ajabu, personally I took this word from a local traditional language in Indonesia, Batak language. It is originally composed by 2 words A and Jabu ("A" means one, and "Jabu" means house). However, here I changed the meaning of house to a new hope/ home.

My Concept Sheet

Here i want to start with some references. Basically, I referencing the city design base on batak toba culture in Indonesia, and combine with basic shape principles, such as triangle, square, and polygonal shapes. Here, i also referencing some abandoned buildings from Nagasaki prefecture, and some buildings from a famous architect, Daniel Libeskind. His works are very astonishing.

Though n.8 has dramatic camera angle, it looks more lively and could bring to a focus everyday life of citizens and environment details, unlike plain skyline view. For my taste of course. :smile:

Hey guys, i try to update my next progress. Here, i try to continue my no 8 thumbnail. Seeking other shapes to make my composition better.

Here, I also try to mix daily life idea with some ruins there (combining no 5 and 8 above). So here, the image looks like there are citizens try to rebuild their new homes above the old ruin.

Honestly I am in position not too sure about my idea, so I want to hear your suggestion/ feedback from you.

Hello Jerome. First of all - nice sketches you have here :).

As for suggestion/ feedback you asked for - I agree that no.8 looks more dynamic (however I like skyline views too... maybe even more). For the type of architecture, I like (for this topic) especially some ideas from no.2, 4, and 5. But in general to sell the idea of a new world built upon the old one I think it is important to place some ruins of the old world (obviously :wink: ) and to make some significant differences between new and old. I mean... something like partially destroyed building made of bricks vs. new buildings under construction made of concrete, or steel or... something-absolutely-new-Sci-Fi-and-awesome :wink:.

Looks amazing, but it resembles more slums at junkyard outside of the city (talking about foreground here), rather than something build on top of ruins. It would be cool to see how buildings from previous era actually looked like, to have contrast and sort of synergy with the new architecture.

Hello guys, happy Sunday. I was busy last week, so i couldn't post any progress here. Actually, I wasn't satisfied with the last result, so this morning i decided to change my progress. The basic idea, still same, although i changed my workflow. :smile:

Here, I started with simple 3d box, and modified it a little bit to match with my references. In this steps, I didn't follow some of my references, just used my references as a basic idea for exploring the basic shape. To be honest, I really liked the basic shape from the Batak house above, so I tried to include that roof design as a part of my building design.

Overall, this was a new city, above old ruins, where people still had memories about their old times, and decided to use their memories to build their new home (A-Jabu)

Below i also included my blocking progresses. Personally i want to continue number 3, however I would love to hear your feedback too.

Nice 3D base :). As for composition/shot I would go with something between number 4 and 5. Number 3 is good too but I think it looks better when line of the horizon is broken a bit by buildings, so split between ground and sky (dividing image into two equal parts) is not so radical. Keep up the good work!
